TO A MOM FROM ANOTHER

First, congratulations on your pregnancy!

You will hear this phrase so many times. I am here today to talk with an open heart about the emotions behind this new phase of your life.

I’ve been there. That feeling when you find out the pregnancy test is positive and everything becomes real.

The wave of emotions and worries that hits you like a tsunami, paralyzing you for minutes or even days...

Am I ready? Can I take care of a baby? How will I keep this little human safe and healthy? The doubts can go on and on.

The advice I wish I had at that time is this: start by taking care of yourself first.

You are “home” to your most precious treasure, and while that can feel like a heavy responsibility, take it easy and be empathetic with yourself and the transformations your body is going through. Find a medical provider you feel comfortable with and use's every consultation to ask as many questions as you need. There’s no such thing as a silly question; after all, this is a new chapter in your life!

Set alarms on your phone to remind you to take your prenatal vitamins every day can be helpful! Invest in a good belly cream and apply it generously twice a day or even more, starting from day one (there won’t be a bump yet, but believe me, you’ll create a habit and thank yourself later). Drinking water is crucial, and many of us simply forget to drink enough. A cute, stylish bottle can motivate you to carry it around and increase your water intake.

The first trimester can be overwhelming. From morning sickness (or all-day sickness) to feeling overtired and anxious about whether the baby is developing as expected, it’s a lot to handle. You might be eager to reach the point where it’s safe to share the news with family and friends. You might also worry about ticking all the boxes as eating healthier, staying mentally balanced, and sometimes it feels like you’re failing at all of it.

If I had just known this earlier...

I would have gone easier on myself. I would have taken it one day at a time.

It’s okay not to follow every piece of advice perfectly or adhere to all the tips on what’s best during pregnancy. Embrace and enjoy your moment! It is unique! It’s your time to dive into this new world with an open heart.

Following "good" professionals on social media, such as gynecologists, pediatricians and lactation specialists can be an easy and subtle way to get daily information. Educate yourself about what to expect during pregnancy, research on the birthing process options, breastfeeding,

formula feeding and the first steps in caring for your baby.

Be kind to yourself.

Empower yourself.

Feel confident together with all the other mixed feelings.

These basic, yet important, topics will give you the

confidence and preparation you need.

You can do it!

With love, Nat
